LS vs OI | Rashid Khan and Sam Curran star at Lords as Invincibles start title defence with big win

Oval Invincibles beat London Spirit by six wickets in the opening game of The Hundred Men's Championship 2025 at Lord's on Tuesday. Rashid Khan and Sam Curran starred with the ball with three-wicket hauls as the defending champions started their campaign with a massive win in the London derby.
London Spirit skipper Kane Williamson won the toss and elected to bat first, hoping to put a big total on the board. Unfortunately, they did not have the best of starts as Jason Behrendorff and Jordan Clarke kept things tight and made use of the early seaming conditions. The two quick wickets of Keaton Jennings and Kane Williamson did not make it easy for the home team, as Jennings was dismissed trying to break the shackles, only to be caught at square leg off Clarke. Williamson was dismissed in the following five-ball over by Behrendorff while attempting a cross-batted shot, edging to the wicketkeeper. The Spirit were already in a spot of bother with the score at 21/2 after the first 25 balls. The Invincibles managed to keep things quiet in the middle phase as well, with the runs hard to come by as Clarke returned for another over to dismiss the dangerous David Warner, and Rashid Khan also joined the wickets column in a 10-ball over after dismissing Wayne Madsen, who ended up giving a simple catch to point after failing to execute a reverse sweep off the leggie. The struggles for Spirit continued with the score at 44/4 after 50 balls, but they managed to get a ten-run over of leg-spinner Nathan Sowter. He was welcomed by Ashton Turner with some aggressive strokes despite lgetting the wicket of Josh Simpson, who was trapped in front of his stumps by a skiddy and flat delivery. Despite the slightly expense over, Rashid continued to wreak havoc with a couple of more breakthroughs in the middle to complete his three-wicket haul. As Sam Curran also joined the wickets column with three scalps, including Turner, who was the only batter to look set on a score of 21 off 14 deliveries. The team was eventually bundled out for just 80 runs as no other batter looked to threaten the Invincibles' bowling attack.
Though the conditions did not seem to get easier in the second innings, Oval Invincibles openers Will Jacks and Twanda Muyeye kept their composure and stayed within the required rate, with the score reading 27 after the first 25 balls. Liam Dawson tried to take the game as deep as possible with his amazing spell of 2/9 in 20 balls, which included wickets of both the openers. Muyeye saw the ball crash into his stumps on a score of 18, and Jacks was dismissed for 24 after cutting the ball straight into the hands of backward point. Unfortunately, Dwason's efforts went in vain as a 14-run cameo from Curran was enough to reduce the equation to 12 runs off the last 35 deliveries. The Invincibles eventually chased down the target on the 69th ball as Donovan Ferreira ended the game with a massive six over long-on to ensure a six-wicket win. The Invincibles started their title defence in style, closing off the London derby with 31 balls to spare.
Rashid Khan was awarded the Player of the Match in the opening fixture for his incredible match-winning spell of 3/11 in 20 balls.
