NSC vs WF Hundred Preview

Northern Superchargers will face Welsh Fire in The Hundred Men's Competition 2025 at Headingley in Leeds on August 7. The two underperforming teams of the tournament will hope to turn their luck around in the fifth season after facing a lot of disappointment in the last four editions.

‌The third game of The Hundred Men's Competition 2025 is set to take place in Leeds on Thursday, as the Northern Superchargers take on the Welsh Fire at Headingley. This is set to be the battle of the underdogs as both teams have struggled in the tournament in the last four years and are yet to qualify for the playoffs.

The Superchargers, who finished fifth, sixth, and eighth, respectively, in the first three seasons, will be led by Harry Brook. The England white-ball captain led the side in the last season too, with Superchargers showing a lot of promise after their disappointing campaign in the first three. However, they failed to scrape through to the playoffs due to a poor net run rate and ended fourth on the table with five wins and two losses. They will be hoping to make amends and go one step further after a heartbreaking end to the last season.

Welsh Fire have been underperforming in the last four seasons and are the only team to finish at the bottom of the table in two consecutive seasons. Though they had a bit of resurgence in the 2023 season, when they finished fourth, but had another forgettable season followed with inconsistent performances plotting their downfall. They finished sixth on the table with only two wins and four losses. So it is set to be a battle between two teams who are still searching for that top-three spot in the competition.

Form Guide

The Superchargers' recent form in the tournament has been fairly decent, winning three of their last five games in the league.

The Welsh fire has struggled in the last five games in the tournament, only managing one win and suffering two losses. They were also unlucky as two of the games ended in a no result due to rain.

Pitch and Weather

The surface at Headingley has been known to be a great surface to bat on, as a lot of big totals have been set here. The tournament hosted four games at this venue last year, where the average first innings score on the surface was 152, and the highest score at the venue was 185.  The team batting first had won three of the four fixtures, implying that it might be a great idea for the skipper to bat first on the wicket.

The weather is expected to be cool and breezy at a temperature of 17 degrees Celsius. Though the conditions might be slightly cloudy, the chances of rain are minuscule.

Team News

The Superchargers have some powerful batters in their squad, with Zak Crawley, Dawid Malan, Harry Brook expected to be the key batters in the top four. David Miller, Dan Lawrence, and all-rounder James Fuller will power the middle order, while Imad Wasim, Adil Rashid, Matthew Potts, and Mohammad Amir make up the bowling attack, which will be a perfect mix of spin and pace.

Jonny Bairstow and Steven Smith are expected to open the batting for Welsh Fire, being the most experienced campaigners in the team. They will also most likely pick all-rounders in Paul Walter and Chris Green, who will add a lot of depth to their playing eleven.

Northern Superchargers Probable XI: Zack Crawley, Michael Pepper(wk), Dawid Malan, Harry Brook(c), David Miller, Dan Lawrence, James Fuller, Imad Wasim, Adil Rashid, Matthew Potts, Mohammad Amir.

Welsh Fire Probable XI: Jonny Bairstow(wk), Steven Smith, Tom Kohler-Cadmore, Tom Abell(c), Paul Walter, Stephen Eskinazi, Ben Kellaway, Chris Green, Josh Hull, Mason Crane, Riley Meredith.
