WF vs MO | Chris Green and Riley Meredith power Welsh Fire to clinical win over Manchester Originals

Welsh Fire beat Manchester Originals by 25 runs in The Hundred Men’s 2025 game at Sophia Gardens in Cardiff on Wednesday. Chris Green’s all-round performance and Riley Meredith’s impressive spell with the new ball helped the home side notch up their first points in the current campaign.
After being put into bat first at Sophia Gardens, Fire managed 137/8 in 100 balls, with Steve Smith and Tom Kohler-Cadmore jointly top-scoring for the side with 26. The former Australian captain hit four fours and a six while Kohler-Cadmore had two fours and two sixes in his knock. Green’s blistering nine-ball 19, which included two sixes and a four, took the home side closer to the 140-run mark. For the Originals, Josh Tongue and Scott Currie picked up 3/25 and 3/21, respectively, in their 20-ball spells.
Riley Meredith’s excellent new ball spell put the visitors on the back foot at the start of the chase. The Australian pacer accounted for captain Phil Salt, Ben McKinney, and Mark Chapman as the Originals struggled at 25/3 after the mandatory powerplay of 25 balls. However, wicketkeeper-batter Jos Buttler’s stroke-filled half-century ensured that the visitors’ total went past 100. He hit six fours and two sixes to top-score in the contest with a 34-ball 57 as the Originals’ chase ended at 112, when they were bowled out with three balls to spare. Meredith was the pick among the Welsh bowlers with superlative figures of 4/9 in 17 balls, while Green came good with the ball too, with figures of 3/19.
