CPL 2025 | Guyana Amazon Warriors aim one step ahead after faltering at final hurdle last year

St Kitts and Nevis Patriots will host Guyana Amazon Warriors in the second match of the Caribbean Premier League 2025 season in Basseterre. The Patriots won their first game against Antigua and Barbuda Falcons on Friday, while the visitors will take the field for the first time this season.
Guyana won seven of their 10 group matches to top the table after the league phase last year but stumbled twice in the Qualifiers to concede the title to St Lucia Kings. Warriors’ record in the summit clash will be something they will be pondering about, with the side losing five finals before winning their only title in CPL 2023 and again falling short at the final step in the next year.
However, they will take heart from the consistent performances throughout the last two seasons that saw them win 15 out of the 20 group games and topping the points table on both occasions. Shimron Hetmyer was Guyana’s best batter, fifth overall, last season amassing 402 runs in 13 matches at an average of 40.20 and a strike rate of 185.25. On the bowling front, the spin duo of Gudakesh Motie and skipper Imran Tahir topped the charts with 17 and 16 wickets, respectively.
Meanwhile, the Patriots will play their second home game in two days, after starting their CPL 2025 campaign with a clinical six-wicket win over Antigua and Barbuda Falcons on Friday. Left-arm wrist spinner Waqar Salamkheil was the star of the match with an impressive spell of 4/22 in four overs that restricted the Falcons to a modest total.

Pitch and Conditions
The Basseterre wicket is expected to continue on the slower side with significant assistance to the spinners. However, as witnessed during the last game, the wicket will ease out in the second half of the match helping stroke-making easy for the batters. For the same reason, the captain who wins the toss will prefer chasing a total.
Rain will have a say during the match with 84% chances of rain at night, with temperatures ranging around 25 degrees.
Team News
The patriots are expected to continue with the winning combination from their last game while Guyana might be tempted to start pacers Shamar Joseph and Jediah Blades with Imran Tahir leading the spin attack.
