SNP vs GAW CPL 2025 review

Guyana Amazon Warriors beat St Kitts and Nevis Patriots by five wickets in the second game of the Caribbean Premier League 2025 at Warner Park. Ben McDermott and Shai Hope half-centuries ensured that the Imran Tahir-led team completed the chase and got their first points of the season.

‌Guyana Amazon Warriors won the toss and elected to field first on what seemed like a dry surface at Warner Park.  St Kitts and Nevis Patriots' innings did not start well, with Evin Lewis being retired hurt after hurting his wrist and Kyle Mayers getting dismissed in the third over by Dwaine Pretorius. However, Andre Fletcher made sure the host finished the power play well with the score reading 55/1 after six overs. Fletcher continued to carry the innings despite getting little to no support at the other end as the Warriors' spin duo of Imran Tahir and Gudakesh Motie kept things tight. These frugal spells led to Rilee Rossouw getting dismissed by Tahir in an attempt to up the scoring rate. With only 25 runs coming off the last four overs, the Patriots slumped to 80/2 in 10 overs. The struggles for the hosts continued as Fletcher continued to run out of partners. Alick Athanaze's sluggish innings of nine runs off 18 deliveries was ended by Romario Shepherd and the Patriots skipper Jason Holder, getting dismissed in the next over by Motie. These dismissals made sure the Guyanese franchise still looked dominant as the home team was in a difficult position at 103/4 after 15 overs. The situation went from bad to worse as Fletcher was finally dismissed after a great knock of 60 off 41 deliveries by Pretorius. While the wickets were falling, the Patriots got some help from a cameo from Jyd Goolie, who helped take his team to a respectable total of 153/8.

The St Kitts franchise might not have had the best of days with the bat, but they ensured they started things well with the ball, with Fazalhaq Farooqui getting an early wicket of Kevlon Anderson in the powerplay. Unfortunately, that was the only moment of respite for them as Ben McDermott and Shai Hope made sure they finished on a decent score of 54/1 in the first six overs. The two batters did not stop there as they continued to score runs in the middle with another 53 runs coming off the next four overs, and taking the Warriors to a comfortable position at 107/1 after 10 overs. Though McDermott's innings of 75 off 39 deliveries was finally ended by Waqar Salamkhiel and broke the century stand, the 2023 CPL winners never looked out of the game. While there might have been some early wickets in the middle, Hope made sure the chase was complete in 17.2 overs. The keeper-batter remained unbeaten on 56 off 39 deliveries and ensured the Warriors won their first game of the season by five wickets

Ben McDermott was the player of the match after his incredible innings at the top.
