Australia beat South Africa by two wickets in the deciding fixture at Cairns to claim the series 2-1. While Corbin Bosch keeps the fight alive with an impressive spell, Glenn Maxwell’s match-winning half-century ensured the Aussies won the game with two balls to spare.

‌Australia won the toss and chose to field first in the third and final T20I and started the game with an early wicket of South Africa skipper Aiden Markram, who edged the ball to Cameron Green in the slips off Josh Hazlewood. After the dismissal, there was some intent shown by Lhuan-dre Pretorius, who came to the crease after Markram’s dismissal. Unfortunately, the young left-hander could not convert his start as he was dismissed in the fifth over by Nathan Ellis. The Aussies had put the visitors on the back foot as they finished the powerplay on a score of 46/2. The Aussies seemed to be in a strong position, especially after Ryan Rickelton was dismissed straight after the power play by Adam Zampa. However, Dewald Brevis changed the complexion of the game in the tenth over by smashing Aaron Hardie for 27 runs. The over by Hardie also included three incredible no-look sixes. One of the sixes caused a bit of a scare as well, where a fan attempting to catch one of the sixes in the stands injured himself by hitting his head on the railing. Though Brevis’s incredible innings of 53 off 26 deliveries came to an end in the twelfth as he fell victim to a stunning catch by Glenn Maxwell, the Rainbow Nation were in a solid position at 134/4 after 15 overs. Though it looked like South Africa would reach a huge total, the host managed to make a comeback. Though Rassie van der Dussen tried to get some runs on the board, the Aussie bowlers only conceded 38 runs in the last 30 deliveries and took three wickets. The final score at the end was 172/7 with van der Dussen remaining unbeaten on 38 off 26 deliveries.
The Aussies started the power play with Mitchell Marsh playing the aggressor and Travis Head rotating the strike at the other end. The hosts finished the first six overs on a score of 52/0. Though Mitchell Marsh continued to score runs in the middle, South Africa managed to get a couple of early strikes with Head giving a simple catch to Lungi Ngidi off his own bowling, and Josh Inglis gets knocked over by a jaffa by Corbin Bosch. With only 30 runs coming in the next 24 balls the game was in the balance at 82/2 after 10 overs. While Aussies were still in a decent position halfway into their chase, the tables suddenly turned in favor of the Proteas in the next over by Kwena Maphaka. The young pacer got the important wicket of the Australia captain, whose innings of 54 came to an end after pulling the ball straight down deep square leg’s throat. Cameron Green was also dismissed in the space of two deliveries which put the host under a lot of pressure. The situation went from bad to worse as a couple of more wickets fell with Kagiso bowling a magical over to dismiss the dangerous Tim David and Hardie. The Australians were suddenly in a tough spot with the score at 133/6 needing 40 off the last five overs. It seemed like South Africa managed to come back in the game, but Glenn Maxwell made sure the team got to a comfortable posiition with 12needed off the last 12 balls. Though Bosch came for his last over and took a coupl of wickets to give the visitors a glimmer of hope, Maxwell ended the chase with two balls to spare as Australia claim the series 2-1.
