Shubman Gill suffered a frustrating Friday in the Eliminator against Mumbai Indians in Mullanpur

Shubman Gill's Gujarat Titans crashed out of the Indian Premier League on Saturday with a loss to Mumbai Indians in the Eliminator at Mullanpur, after failing to chase 229. The losing skipper talked about where things wrong but focused on praising heap on his players as he bowed out.

G‌ujarat Titans fell 20 runs short of Mumbai Indians' 228 at the Maharaja Yudhvir Singh International Cricket Stadium to confirm their exit from the tournament. The franchise seemed on course for chasing down the target for large parts of their effort but managed to score just 33 runs off their last four overs, despite managing to dispatch Jasprit Bumrah for nine runs in the process without adding to his wickets column.

"Last three or four overs didn't go our way, but still a very good game of cricket," skipper Shubman Gill said after the loss.

The Titans got off to a dream start when Prasidh Krishna managed to find Rohit Sharma's top edge in the second over but Gerald Coetzee let slip the skier at deep square leg and allowed Rohit to survive. The former Indian skipper then receieved a second reprieve the very next over, this time Kusal Mendis the culprit with the gloves, and Rohit capitalized by scoring a match-winning 81 off just 50 deliveries to bag the Man of the Match honour. To make matters worse, Mendis soon after dropped another another catch off Suryakumar Yadav, with the talisman playing a pivotal knock too of 33 runs in just 20 deliveries.

"Not easy when we drop three sitters, especially in the powerplay. Not easy for the bowlers to control," Gill admitted.

The chase got off to an awry start when the in-form Gill lasted just two deliveries before being trapped in front by Trent Boult and Kusal trod onto his stumps following a blistering cameo, but it soon gained steam through Sai Sudharsan (80 off 49) and Washington Sundar (40 off 24). The duo stitched together an 84-run stand in just 33 deliveries, the former extending his lead in the Purple Cap standings in the process, but fell prematurely to see GT endure a third successive defeat on their way out.

"The message was simple: just play the game you want to play. The goal was the same for both [Sai and Washington]... lot of positives for us. Last two or three games didn't go our way, but credit to all the players - especially Sai; he was terrific. I think 210 was par on this pitch," Gill concluded.
