Shakib Al Hasan, born on March 24, 1987, is one of the best all-rounders in world cricket. Known for his aggressive batting with his left hand and his controlled left-arm orthodox bowling, Shakib has had a huge impact on international cricket. He made his debut in Test cricket in 2007, in One Day Internationals (ODIs) in 2006, and in Twenty20 Internationals (T20Is) in 2006, becoming an important figure in Bangladesh’s cricket history.

In 2007, Shakib played his first Test match against India on May 18 in Chittagong. He scored 27 runs, and the match ended in a draw.

Domestic career

Shakib Al Hasan began his cricket career in 2004 with Khulna in the National Domestic League. He made his First Class debut for Bangladesh Cricket Board XI against Zimbabwe in January 2005. Over his career, Shakib has played 92 First Class matches, scoring 5777 runs, including 8 centuries and 34 half-centuries. He has also taken 310 wickets, with 23 five-wicket hauls and 2 ten-wicket hauls.

In the National Cricket League (NCL), Shakib has represented Khulna since 2004. In his early years, he played only a few matches but gradually became a key player. By the 2010 season, he was the captain of Khulna in the now-defunct NCL Twenty20. He played 7 matches, scoring 86 runs and taking 8 wickets. In the 2006-07 season, Shakib's batting average was lower, but he improved significantly in the later seasons, with 930 runs in 14 matches at an average of 40.43.

Shakib also ventured into English county cricket. He joined Worcestershire in 2010, becoming the first Bangladeshi to play for a county team. He impressed in the County Championship, taking 35 wickets and scoring 358 runs in 8 first-class matches. His best bowling figures for Worcestershire were 7/32 against Middlesex. In 2011, after his IPL stint, Shakib returned to Worcestershire and also played one match for Surrey, where he took 4 wickets. Shakib Al Hasan returned to cricket in November 2020 after serving a one-year ban from the International Cricket Council. He joined Gemcon Khulna for the Bangabandhu T20 Cup.
