When the summer transfer window reached its final 48 hours, Arsenal made a major breakthrough by securing a deal for Bayer Leverkusen defender Piero Hincapie. The 23 year old Ecuador international will join on loan, with the Gunners holding a £45 million option to buy at the end of the season. Having been an unused substitute in Leverkusen’s recent 3-3 draw against Werder Bremen, he is now expected to complete his medical before officially signing and could debut against Nottingham Forest after the international break.

Arsenal’s summer spending has already crossed £250 million, with only about £7 million recouped from sales, yet new sporting director Andrea Berta continues to push deals. Once Hincapie’s move is finalized, Arsenal are expected to shift focus to player exits, with Jakub Kiwior likely making way, while Fabio Vieira faces interest from West Ham, Stuttgart and other clubs.

Vieira, signed for £34 million in 2022, is still considered too expensive by some suitors. Meanwhile, Mohamed Salah has once again tipped Arsenal as favourites for the Premier League title, highlighting their squad stability under Mikel Arteta compared to rivals Liverpool and Manchester City. Arsenal’s defensive strength has stood out, making them a serious contender this season.
