T20 Series West Indies vs. Australia

International Career

The very few cricketers who made their name prominent in modern-day cricket, especially in the fast-paced, evolving formats, Adam Zampa is one of them. Born on 31st March 1992, Zampa comes from the coastal city, Shellharbour of New South Wales. Despite coming from a small town, his determination made his name big in the domestic circuit. He started his career as a medium pacer and later transitioned into a leg-spinner like his idol Shane Warne. Soon at his 20th, he made his domestic debut at Sheffield Shield. Till now he accumulated 115 wickets in first-class cricket and 251 wickets in List-A.

Zampa’s impressive performance in domestic cricket forced Cricket Australia to include him in the national team. Here’s a look at his international career:

  • February 6, 2016: Zampa’s rich stats helped him to take part in international cricket, against New Zealand at Wellington. He received his ODI cap from legendary cricketer Allan Border, making his debut remarkable. His contributions helped the Aussies significantly to win the match.
  • February 8, 2016: Even before his T20I debut, Adam’s excellent bowling strategies brought him under the spotlight of selectors and he got selected for the 2016 World Twenty20.
  • March 4, 2016: Zampa made his T20I debut against South Africa at Durban, the 1st T20I of Australia's tour of South Africa. Despite the Aussies losing the match, he showed a promising start to his T20 career.
  • October 2023: In the ODI World Cup 2023 organized by India, Zampa collected 23 wickets and finished the series as the second-highest wicket-taker of it. He surpassed the legendary pacer Mitchell Starc(22 wickets) and placed himself at number 8 on this list.

Adam Zampa became a regular of the Australian team in white ball cricket and participated in nearly 200 matches in limited-over cricket. His sharp technique and different plans for batters made his name the first choice for management. Despite his huge success, he has many more to show in upcoming big events for Australia.

Indian Premier League

Zampa’s clever bowling attack attracted the attention of T20 bidders from all over the world and no wonder, the most popular T20 league in the world, IPL caught him early. From his debut in 2016, he played for some prestigious franchises in these years. Let's take a tour of his journey:

Year

Information about Participation in the Tournament

2016 IPL

In 2016, his sharp performance caught the eyes of the Scouts of Rising Pune Supergiants and Zampa made it his dream debut season of this prestigious league. In just 5 matches, he bagged 12 wickets with a cheap economy rate of 6.76. He achieved his IPL career-best figures of 6/19 against Sunrisers Hyderabad and became Man of the Match.

2017 IPL

In contrast with the previous year, Zampa failed to make any impact in this season. He appeared in 6 matches and took only 7 wickets with a ln economy of 8.21.

2018 IPL

After only one average season, Zampa was dropped by the franchise and remained unsold in this season. This bidding verdict was kind of disappointing for him.

2019 IPL

In the 2019 auction table, he again remained unsold and this time it was nothing but a surprising move from the franchises as cricket experts predicted a bidding war for him before the auction.

2020 IPL

Finally, in 2020, Zampa got a chance but in a very twisted way. First, he again went unsold in the auction table but later, he was picked by Royal Challengers Bangalore as a replacement for another Aussie cricketer Kane Richardson and got a whopping 1.5 crore INR. But again he failed to make any impact and took only 2 wickets in 3 matches with an economy of 8.36.

2021 IPL

RCB showed trust in Zampa but this season, Zampa returned to Australia due to some personal reasons before IPL and did not play any match for RCB.

2022 IPL

In 2022 Zampa came back and put himself on the auction table and set his base price of INR 2 cr. But no franchise showed interest in him, and again he remained unsold for another year.

2023 IPL

In the 2023 auction table, Rajasthan Royals bought Zampa for INR 1.5 cr. This year Zampa surely thought about his comeback but unfortunately, he failed to grab the few chances he got from the team management.

2024 IPL

In 2024, Zampa pulled out himself from the IPL schedule due to personal reasons. He officially mentioned his national commitments and family reasons were the main reasons for his exit.

2025 IPL

After a year’s break, Zampa returned in the 2025 IPL auction and bagged a deal of INR 2.4 crore from Sunrisers Hyderabad. His inclusion will strengthen Hyderabad’s bowling unit and Aussie fans are really looking for his comeback this season.

Domestic Career

Adam Zampa came to light of domestic cricket when his journey started with the New South Wales domestic cricket team. He debuted in the 2012–13 Sheffield Shield season against Queensland. In his debut match, he collected 5 wickets and scored 18 crucial runs which helped their team to win. His List-A debut came against Queensland in the Ryobi One-Day Cup at Canberra, where he only took a wicket in 5 overs and scored 19 runs.

In his first-class career, he bagged 115 wickets with an impressive economy of 3.89 and also scored 1239 runs which made him a dependable lower-order batter. Coming to his List-A career, he accumulated 251 wickets with an economy of 5.40. He has more than 350 T20 wickets which makes him so special in this format.

Records and Achievements

Adam Zampa sharpened his career in White ball cricket which eventually gifted him numerous awards and records in this long career. Let's take a look at his achievements:

Awards:

Zampa got some precious awards at the stage of the World Cup. He played a key role in the success of Australia in those years.

  • In the 2023 ICC ODI World Cup, he won the Man of the Match award twice against Sri Lanka and Pakistan.
  • Zampa won the Player of the Match award in a match against Namibia in the 2024 T20 World Cup. This was his second consecutive Player of the Match award in the T20 World Cup.

Records:

Adam Zampa holds some of the rarest records for which any bowler dreams forever. Let's have a quick look into his records:

  • Adam Zampa is the first Aussie cricketer who took 100 T20I wickets.
  • List-A Cricket: He took 251 wickets in 151 matches with an economy of 5.40.
  • T20I Cricket: Adam Zampa is one of the six leg-spinners of the world who took 100+ wickets in T20I.
  • IPL: Zampa achieved his career-best IPL bowling figure(6/19) in his debut season against Sunrisers Hyderabad.

Personal life

Born to a sports-enthusiastic family of Shellharbour of New South Wales on 31st March 1992, Zampa's father nurtured him with a broader sports aspect. Adam completed his schooling in New South Wales and later moved to South Australia for his cricketing betterment. Some reports suggest that he completed his graduation later. His brilliance with the ball soon made him a key attraction in the Australian cricket community.

Family Life

Zampa's cricket mania seems to be carried from his family. His father Darren Zampa was a prominent name for New South Wales domestic cricket in his early life. His mother is Allison Zampa and a few years back he got married to Harriet Palmer and they have a son together.

Financial Standing

Being a reputed white ball bowler of team Australia, Adam Zampa made a quite good net worth in his career. His net worth is around 5-6 million US dollars(INR 15 crore approx). He has a Cricket Australia contract, several payrolls under T20 franchises all over the world, and lots of brand endorsements which helped him to build his empire.

Cars and House

Adam Zampa owns a Toyota Kluger, a premium SUV car that costs around 83k US Dollars(INR 72 Lakhs). Many times he showed his obsession with premium SUVs and this is one of his most loved four-wheeler possessions.

Zampa comes from a small town in New South Wales, Australia but he never forgot his roots. A few times ago he built a luxurious mansion in the Byron Bay region of New South Wales coastal area. According to official reports, this house costs around 2.5 million US dollars(Approx INR 20 crore).

Scandals

Adam Zampa always remains in the headlines for his straightforward comments. In August 2024, Zampa took a dig upon former Aussie cricketers like Michael Clarke And Matthew Hayden for their extreme criticism in the media regarding the current Australian team. Regarding David Warner’s farewell match, some ex-Aussies raised their voice questioning the need for the decision which fueled Zampa and started an uncanny debate.

In December 2024, Adam Zampa faced widespread criticism for his inclusion in the New South Wales cricket team in the Sheffield Shield against Tasmania despite his long time break from first-class matches. Some former cricketers and media houses speculated Cricket Australia unofficially pressurized the NSW Board of Cricket to select Zampa which could make him prepared for the upcoming Sri Lanka tour. However, the criticism went too far and finally, the NSW board registered a telephonic apology to Zampa for the harassment in the media.

Fans and Social Media Presence

Being a popular face in T20 leagues all around the world and an intrinsic part of Team Australia, Zampa made quite an impressive fanbase all over the world. He garnered over 450k followers on his Instagram profile where his fans can witness his personal life updates and information about him.
